Niyiits Doghołt'e

Cultural Narrative: 

This song was composed by Ahtna Athabaskan storyteller and songster, George Demientieff Holly.  George has performed with Perseverance Theatre and Naa Kahidi Theatre in Juneau. He uses his talents to support the Alaska Native language movement, writing music with children, teachers and groups of learners.  George is a Rasmussen Artist Fellow.  He lives in his Kenai River home in Soldotna.  

Traditional Knowledge: 

Niyiits Doghołt'e, which can be translated into English as exhaling breath, was adapted from an Ahtna Prayer for the purpose of celebrating life and to perpetuate the Ahtna traditions of storytelling and song.
